Choose a travel eSIM that fits your actual trip
An eSIM is useful only if it works on your device, in the places you will visit, for the way you use data. Compare those details before comparing prices.
Confirm your exact device
Check the device model and regional variant with your manufacturer or carrier, and confirm that it supports eSIM and is network-unlocked. Airalo’s official guidance makes compatibility and network-unlocked status prerequisites. Owning a recent smartphone alone is not enough to establish either condition.
Match coverage to the itinerary
List every country on the trip and decide whether one local plan or a regional plan suits it. Check the provider’s stated network coverage and plan conditions. A country name in the product title does not establish coverage inside a particular building, on a mountain route or at sea.
Check what the allowance includes
Record the data amount, validity period, activation trigger and whether voice calls, SMS or hotspot use are included. Read any fair-use limit on an unlimited plan. If you depend on video meetings or maps, plan a fallback connection and understand how top-ups or additional plans work.
Prepare the phone before departure
For iPhone, Apple says a travel eSIM from another carrier requires an unlocked device; Settings → General → About should show “No SIM Restrictions” beside Carrier Lock. Apple also says activation generally needs Wi-Fi or a hotspot, and supported iPhones can keep a home line and a travel eSIM active together. Decide which line will provide mobile data and review your home carrier’s roaming terms before departure so keeping your usual number reachable does not accidentally create data-roaming charges. Guidance checked 3 October 2026; menus and support vary by device, region and carrier.
Keep the installation instructions ready
Save the provider’s instructions before departure. Follow the stated installation and activation sequence; the validity clock may depend on the product’s activation rules. Keep your main SIM’s roaming settings under control according to your carrier’s advice. For a review, distinguish installation experience from coverage and customer support.
